I started this list a while ago in response to a question I often hear on the Drunk on Lettering podcast: Who are some of your favorite female letterers? The hosts, Roxy and Phoebe, feel that there's a lack of recognition for women who are killing it in the lettering world. This isn't supposed to be a rude post to them...it just got me thinking about why it's so hard for people to come up with an answer. So, I present to you a small sampling of lettering ladies you need to know about (besides me). 

Roxy Prima & Phoebe Cornog

The reason I created this post! Roxy and Phoebe are the masterminds behind San Diego Letters, a design studio creating murals, branding and lettering in a variety of mediums.

Jessica Hische

My idol. Jessica is one of the first letterers I discovered and I am borderline obsessed with her. She designs super clean vector lettering in all sorts of fun styles and colors.

Louise Fili

Louise is a lettering legend. Specializing in branding for food packaging and restaurants, the classy work she creates is inspired by her Italian heritage.

Martina Flor

Martina crafts the most elegant vector lettering, no matter what style it is. I always enjoy the lovely details she includes in her work.

Lauren Hom

Lauren's lettering is playful and whimsical. You'll never see any of her work lacking flourishes. She also has a nice subtle texture to a lot of her work that drives home the hand drawn feel.

Danielle Evans

Under the studio name Marmalade Bleue, Danielle is a master of food and 3D typography. She works in a variety of lettering styles, each one more amazing than the last.

Shauna Lynn Panczyszyn

Shauna's work is so fun! She not only draws quirky lettering, but throws in a good bit of illustration as well.

Dina Rodriguez

Whether it's for businesses or individuals, Dina gives each project the attention it deserves. I'm a fan of her compositions and the unique ways she pieces words together.

Gemma O'Brien

Gemma is incredible. Her work is both abstract and precise, and she puts an insane amount of detail into her illustrations.

Jen Mussari

Jen's lettering is simple, bold and beautiful. Sometimes it's textured, sometimes it's vectored, but it's always amazing.

Dana Tanamachi

After rising to fame as a chalk lettering artist, Dana's lettering work continues to be outstanding. The level of detail and craftsmanship in each piece blows my mind.

Mary Kate McDevitt

Often inspired by vintage lettering, Mary Kate has a perfectly imperfect, handcrafted look to her work.

Jenna Blazevich

Jenna is a self-described feminist artist. She creates beautiful, often intricate, sometimes slightly gothic designs.

Molly Jacques

Lettering, fonts, calligraphy — this lady does it all. She's currently focused on educating other letter lovers out there to learn lettering and calligraphy.

Marlene Silveira

Marlene works in both digital and analog. Either way, it's always fantastic.

Becca Clason

Not only does she push the type boundaries by creating dimensional lettering, Becca takes it a step further by animating her creations. (Click through to her website to see the animation of this piece!)

Rachel Humiston

Kick-starting her lettering career painting signs at Trader Joe's, Rachel continues to paint fresh signs in the store and around Richmond, VA. (Check out my RVA Q+A with Rachel.)

Clara Cline

Another letterer based in Richmond, VA! Combine lettering, illustration and nature, mix in some vintage inspiration, and you've got a force to be reckoned with. (Read my RVA Q+A with Clara.)

Andrea Malzhon

Last but not least, we've got Andrea...also based in Richmond, VA. What can I say, we're a creative city! Andrea gets crafty by embroidering lettering, often with some embroidered illustrations as well. (You know I've got an RVA Q+A with her too.)
